What do I need to do after installing a remanufactured engine?

Installing the engine is only part of the job. Proper break-in and follow-up maintenance are essential to the longevity of your remanufactured engine — and to maintaining your warranty.

STEP 1 — BREAK-IN PERIOD (FIRST 600 MILES): • Drive conservatively — vary your speed and engine load. • Avoid towing, hauling heavy loads, or sustained high RPM driving. • Check the oil level and coolant level every day during the break-in period. • Do not use synthetic oil during break-in.

STEP 2 — 600-MILE CHECKUP: • Change the engine oil and filter. • Check ignition timing (if adjustable). • Inspect for any leaks — oil, coolant, vacuum. • If your engine has adjustable valves, perform a valve adjustment at this point.

STEP 3 — 1,000-MILE OIL CHANGE: • Perform another oil and filter change at 1,000 miles. • This removes any residual break-in material from the engine internals.

STEP 4 — ONGOING MAINTENANCE: • Continue oil changes every 3,000 miles, performed at a licensed repair facility. • Use the oil type specified in our pre-installation checklist for your engine type. • No synthetic oil until the engine has reached 5,000 miles.

STEP 5 — KEEP SERVICE RECORDS: • Retain all receipts and records for every oil change and service performed. • These records are required if a warranty claim is necessary.

IMPORTANT: Failure to follow the break-in procedure or maintain proper service intervals will affect your warranty coverage. If you have questions about what's required for your specific engine, call us at 1-844-XPARTS-1 or email support@expediaparts.com.
