How does OEM part interchangeability work?

Text size

When you order an engine or transmission, you might receive a part that looks slightly different from what you expected. This is normal — here's why.

WHAT IS OEM INTERCHANGEABILITY?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Automakers frequently use the same engine or transmission across multiple vehicle years, makes, and models. These parts are built to identical specifications and carry the same manufacturer part number — even if they came out of a different vehicle than yours.

This is a standard manufacturing practice. It is not something unique to used or remanufactured parts.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR ORDER

  • The part you receive may look slightly different or carry a different part number label than what you expected.
  • This does not mean you received the wrong part.
  • Compatibility is confirmed using your VIN number at the time of order. If your VIN indicates the part fits your vehicle, it fits — even if it looks a little different.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL — IMPORTANT
