What is the 600-mile checkup and why do I need it?

Text size

The 600-mile checkup is a required post-installation service for all remanufactured engines. Here's what it involves and why it matters.

WHAT THE 600-MILE CHECKUP INCLUDES

After the first 600 miles of operation, take your vehicle to a licensed shop for:

  • An oil and filter change
  • Fuel and ignition settings inspection and adjustment
  • Valve adjustment (where applicable to your engine type)

WHY IS THIS REQUIRED?

During the break-in period, a remanufactured engine is seating its components under real operating conditions for the first time. Small amounts of metal debris can accumulate in the oil, valve lash can shift slightly, and fuel and ignition settings may need fine-tuning. The 600-mile checkup addresses all of this before any of it becomes a problem.

Skipping this step can cause premature engine wear and may void your warranty.

IS THE CHECKUP COVERED UNDER WARRANTY?

No. The 600-mile checkup is your responsibility as the owner. It is not covered under the engine warranty. Budget for it as part of your installation costs.

WHAT COMES AFTER?

After the checkup, continue with regular maintenance: • Change oil and filter at 1,000 miles after installation (if you haven't already) • Continue oil and filter changes every 3,000 miles at a licensed commercial repair facility • Do not use synthetic oil until after the first 5,000 miles

Keep all receipts and service records from these appointments. They are required documentation for any future warranty claim.
