What does 'OEM interchangeable' mean?

Text size

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer — the company that originally manufactured a part for your vehicle.

Many engine and transmission part numbers are shared across multiple years, makes, and models. This happens because manufacturers often used the same base engine or transmission in different vehicles, built to the same specifications. These parts are considered OEM interchangeable.

What this means for you: The part you receive may look different from what you expected, or may carry a different part number than what you're used to seeing — but it is confirmed to be mechanically compatible with your vehicle. This is completely normal and is not an error.

For example, an engine built to a shared OEM spec might be used across several model years or even different vehicle brands. The external appearance may vary, but the fitment and function are the same.

If you receive a part and are unsure whether it's correct for your vehicle, do not install it. Contact us first at 1-844-XPARTS-1 or support@expediaparts.com and we'll confirm compatibility with you.
