I know my VIN. Which LS engine do I have?

Text size

The easiest way to identify your LS engine using your VIN is to look at the 8th digit. That single character tells you exactly which engine the vehicle was built with.

LS ENGINE VIN CODES (8TH DIGIT): U = LS1 T = LS6 N = LS2 (GTO applications) P = LS2 (Corvette applications) 0 = LS3 or L99 W = LS4 (transverse-mounted, FWD/AWD) S = LS7 E = LS9 or LSA (supercharged)

TRUCK LS VARIANTS: GM trucks also use the 8th VIN digit to identify engine, but the truck-based LS engines (LQ4, LQ9, LM7, LR4, L33, etc.) share some codes with passenger car engines and the exact mapping can vary by year. If you have a truck, we strongly recommend calling us at 1-844-XPARTS-1 or emailing support@expediaparts.com with your full VIN so we can confirm the exact engine code for your application.

IMPORTANT NOTES: • The VIN identifies the engine the vehicle was built with — it does not account for a prior engine swap. • If there's any doubt, cross-reference the VIN code with the engine casting number (located on the front of the block). • For assistance confirming your engine, contact us at 1-844-XPARTS-1 or support@expediaparts.com.
