Text size

The LQ4 is a 6.0L V8 truck engine built on the LS platform with an iron block. It was GM's heavy-duty workhorse engine for 2500 and 3500 series trucks through most of the 2000s.

LQ4 SPECIFICATIONS: Displacement: 6.0L (364 ci) Configuration: V8, OHV (pushrod), 2 valves per cylinder Block material: Cast iron Head material: Aluminum Bore: 4.000" Stroke: 3.622" Compression ratio: 9.4:1 Horsepower: ~325 hp Torque: ~370 lb-ft Production years: 1999–2007 Applications: Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500/3500, GMC Sierra HD 2500/3500, Cadillac Escalade EXT (some)

KEY NOTES: • The LQ4 is part of the Gen III/IV LS engine family, so it shares many internal components with LS car engines. • The iron block makes it heavier than the aluminum-block LS car engines, but also more durable under heavy load and towing. • The LQ4 is often confused with the LQ9 — the LQ9 is a higher-compression version (10.0:1) also found in premium Silverado/Sierra HD and Escalade applications. • Both LQ4 and LQ9 use the same external dimensions and will fit the same swap applications.
